We were privileged to be invited to the prestigious Plenipotentiary Conference – the highest policy-making body of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The conference is held every four years and is the key event where the 193 ITU Member States decide on the future role of the organization and its global strategic policies affecting information and communication technologies worldwide.

TEC was invited because we are one of the fastest-growing technology companies in Romania and leaders in ITU’s strategic sectors of healthcare and fintech. Of relevance was TEC’s expertise in “financial inclusion, fintech, and digital currencies” and track record of creating fintech apps in the Middle East that facilitate the universal accessibility of financial services. Traian Rus, TEC CEO, commented, “Our invitation is another confirmation of the value we bring to the global delivery of these digital services in strategic sectors.”

We had many interesting conversations with delegates about our insights into how the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of digital financial inclusion to be a key facilitator for eradicating poverty and promoting equitable prosperity.

We also learned more about ITU’s exciting platforms to research cybersecurity issues for digital finance and global regulatory challenges brought by digital currencies, blockchain, and artificial intelligence.

The highlights of the many exciting meetings included Damian Collins, Minister for Tech and the Digital Economy. Mr Andrew Noble, British Ambassador to Romania, Bucharest and Abdullah Alswaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Mr Eric Lebédel-Delumeau, Ambassador and Gilles Brégant, CEO of ANFR.

Finally, we would like to sincerely thank Sabin Sărmaș, President of the Information Technology and Communications Committee, Romanian Parliament, and Chairman of ITUPP22, and his team. It is an honour to have a Cluj resident from the IT sector serve as chairman for a conference of such global scope. We are eager to see what the upcoming days hold.
